I'm pretty sure I'd end up with something like this....

But they wouldn't be £4.99 (British Heart Foundation) if i bought them from River Island, would they?

This pair was under a fiver. My mum thinks these are verging too closely to Granny, but they are damn comfy and are so similar (if not as orthopedic) to the ones above from Office!
From Office 'Hurley' about 55 quid...

From Oxfam 'ace' is their name and they were 3.99!
